Downton Abbey is back! Okay, not quite. But a sneak peek of the English television series’ fourth season released today. Although Americans won’t yet get to witness all the tragedies and scandals that are sure to unfold at Downton, we can get a glimpse of what it will be like from the trailer.
Last season I was devastated by the death of Matthew Crawley. He and Lady Mary were destined for “happily ever after” but he dies tragically at the end of the season finale. In the trailer for season four, we witness Dowager Countess of Grantham tell her widowed granddaughter that she must go on living.
Tragedy aside, I’m looking forward to the new season because for the first time, there is a… black person! The period drama is set in post World War I England, on the estate of English aristocrats so I’m not surprised that there hasn’t been a person of color featured on the show. Still, hearing the Downton Abbey theme song makes me wish that I could star in the drama. I guess this is just as good though. (I hope there’s a little swirl action!)
While no real plot elements are revealed in this snippet, I see a few new faces and the servants always stir up drama. It’s enough to get me pumped for Winter 2014!
Oh, and that song you hear is “Wolf’s Law” by Formidable.
